KSRTC is giving a thought on starting more city buses after good public response, divisional controller Basavaraj said.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, he said the KSRTC which began the city service with six buses in April this year was running 19 city buses now. To improve public transportation, the corporation has plans to introduce more buses. There was no question of withdrawal of buses, he said.

Demand

“There is demand from Shanthinagar and other layouts for bus services. We are pondering over the option because the roads are very narrow in town. However, we have started a survey to identify the routes. KSRTC’s income has shown a gradual increase from Rs 75,000 to Rs 1.20 lakh a day,” Basavaraj added.

Even as the protest of auto drivers demanding cancellation of city bus services entered sixth day on Monday, students of NDRK college took out a bike rally urging more buses for city services.

As a support to the KSRTC, the students offered pooja to a newly started KSRTC bus service between Udayagiri and city bus stand near the college.

The students submitted a memorandum to deputy commissioner K G Jagadish demanding public transport service to all layouts.

Meanwhile, the auto drivers are adamant on their demand and continued their strike on Monday.
