City student wins national contest

U Mangala Nayak, II year CS student of Canara Engineering College, Benjanapadvu, has won the first prize in a national-level postal stamp design competition on the theme — Vibrant India.

The competition was organised by the Ministry of Communications and IT, Department of Posts for a commemorative postage stamp on the occasion of the Republic Day for selection of design for stamp. More than 5,000 entries were received. Mangala Nayak’s design bagged the first prize along with a cash prize of Rs 10,000.

Mangala Nayak has won many awards in various painting competitions. She is the daughter of U Gopinath Nayak and Anitha Nayak, residents of Car Street, Mangaluru.
