An eight-year-old student was reportedly beaten by his teacher for not completing homework at SVM International School in Maddur on Thursday.

Arpitha, a teacher at the school, had given homework in English subject to Class 3 students.

During checking, she found that Preetham had failed to complete the homework. She reportedly beat him up with a stick causing injuries.

When Preetham returned home, his parents found bruises and blood clot on his shoulders and back. When questioned, the boy narrated the incident.

He developed fever on Thursday night and was admitted to a private hospital. He was discharged on Friday morning.

Preetham’s father Kumar has complained against the teacher to Block Education Officer (BEO), C H Kaleeraiah. The BEO visited the boy’s house and spoke to his parents.

He told reporters that corporal punishment for students was an offence and a complaint had been lodged at the Kesthuru police station in connection with the incident. The official said that teachers should not even harass students mentally.

The school had declared a holiday on Friday. A meeting between the management and the parents has been convened on Saturday to discuss the issue.
