Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that he would file his nomination from Badami Assembly constituency on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters at Mysore Airport on Sunday, the chief minister said that he had decided to contest from Badami yielding to the “request made by the people of north Karnataka and suggestion of the party high command.”

Justifying his decision to contest from two constituencies, Siddaramaiah said: “The people of Chamundeshwari constituency people have already decided to support me and they will ensure my victory. JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy is contesting from two constituencies. He is contesting from neighbouring districts. But, I am contesting from north Karnataka,” he said. He also pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi contested from two constituencies in the 2014Lok Sabha elections.

“I am not worried about the opponent as elections are fought on ideologies and not between the persons. We are fighting communal forces and we want to defeat it”, Siddaramaiah said, when he was asked about BJP planning to field Sriramulu from Badami.
