A day ahead of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal hearing in New Delhi, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday held a meeting with top officials in Bangalore to finalise the State’s stand before the panel.
The Tribunal will meet after seven years to hear applications filed by Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala seeking clarification on the final award it had passed on February 5, 2007 allocating the quantum of water for each state.
A delegation of JD(S) leaders led by former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy also met Siddaramaiah and impressed upon him that the State should contend before the tribunal that Cauvery Management Board should not be constituted as the matter is before the Supreme Court.
The Tribunal had allocated 419 tmc ft for Tamil Nadu, 270 tmc ft for Karnataka, 30 tmc ft for Kerala and 7 tmc ft to Puducherry. The riparian states had filed classificatory applications.
Siddaramaiah said the government will take all steps to protect the State’s interest.
