BJP state president and leader of the Opposition in the Assembly B S Yeddyurappa said on Monday that Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy did not have respect either for the Opposition parties, farmers or the media and has been treating them like slaves.

He was addressing a farmers’ rally organised by the BJP in protest against the ‘anti-farmer’ policies of the government here. Yeddyurappa said Congress legislators had begun to realise the futility of being in alliance with the JD(S) due to the style of working of the coalition government and this would lead to the government falling on its own.

Kumaraswamy had betrayed the farmers by not waiving their loans, he said. Yeddyurappa asked the chief minister to write off the loans or resign from office.

More than 100 taluks had been affected by drought, but none of the ministers, including the chief minister, has reviewed the situation or compensated the farmers.

It’s ‘Tughlaq Durbar’ in the state, Yeddyurappa said. Debt-free certificates issued to farmers for about Rs 50 crore loans had been showcased as an achievement, he said.

“Those calling me old should know that I will be active in politics for 15 more years and will send the JD(S) packing.”

Lok Sabha member Shobha Karandlaje told reporters that the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha had been realised with the efforts of BJP, but its objectives had not been realised as government offices had not been shifted to its premises, affecting the development of the region.

Her colleague in the Lok Sabha Pralhad Joshi the chief minister for saying the government had no funds to provide support price to onion farmers.
