He said that the beans have withered away due to rains in plants which had flowering during March.

However the preliminary round of picking beans has been done much before the stipulated time due to labour problem but in many places the owners could not get weeding due to the labour problems.

He said that while rains have destroyed arabica beans, it has helped growth of robusta in the region. Every year the growers would have to provide water to robusta during winter but this year since rain has been lashing even during winter, planters are spared providing irrigation to the plantation. He informed that the borer menace has reduced considerably.

The post blossom yield of robusta was 36025 tonne and arabica was 39,925 tonne during 2009-10. It was 31,910 tonne of arabica and 29,180 tonne of robusta during 2008-09.
