“There are lot of confusions among the people of the community on their identity. The ongoing conference should end the confusion and make a clear declaration about the status of the Veerashaivas.

The Veerashaivas conduct separate rituals and follow different rules for upasana alike Buddhists, Jains and Sikhs. It shall be identified as a separate religion,” he argued.

He said the Veerashaivas have a long tradition, but the different groups within is making the group shaky.

The past 21 conferences and resolutions have little helped to address the important issues. Atleast this conference should address those critical issues, the writer remarked.

In his address, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said the event brought him happiness as seers from different groups and sects of Veerashaiva tradition came together on a single platform. “It was a feast to the eyes to see the seers hold each others hands and arrive on podium,” he said. He sought the support of the community to complete next two year term in office.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Public Works C M Udaasi said there was need to strengthen the voice of the Veerashaivas, who are disintegrated into different sects and sub sects.

Earlier, Pandit Somanath Maradur provided a soothing beginning to the three-day conference with the rendition of Vachana for more than one hour ahead of the inaugural session.
