A trainee commando has been killed in an explosion during a training sortie at Bamanwadi Firing Range in Belgaum taluk on Saturday. The victim has been identified as Somnath Khaire (28), of Shirur in Pune, Maharashtra.
According to the police, ‘safe charge’, a blast training was being conducted for the trainees by Junior Leaders Wing at Bamanwadi Firing Range, in which the trainees had to reach to safety within the stipulated time of the blast.
The device exploded earlier than it was set to go off injuring Khaire. He was admitted to a private hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
