'Commercialisation of education not a good sign'

He was speaking at the valedictory of Rangarao Memorial PU College Silver Jubilee Celebrations here on Sunday.

Dr Alva said that many institutions are collecting Rs three to four lakh as donation at the kindergarten level. Furthermore, he said that increasingly, institutions in Mysore and Bangalore districts running CBSC and residential schools, have turned education into a business.

He advised the institutions to provide education to people from medium and poor classes. With the increasing competitiveness, he advised students to prepare themselves.
Suggesting arts and commerce students to refrain from being depressed due to the lack of opportunities, he said that instead they should concentrate on facing competitive exams such as KAS and IAS.He observed that the country has a need for nearly 20 lakh chartered accountants (CA). However, India is producing only one lakh CAs per year, he said.
Apart from becoming intellectuals, he suggested students to inculcate good habits. He advised them to understand the beauty of culture by participating in folk and art programmes.

Felicitation
On the occasion, MP H Vishwanath, late Kannada lecturer G Varadarajarao’s wife Savitri G Varadaraj, retired PU and Vocational Education Department Director B S Sridhararaje Urs, journalist Rajashekar Koti and Vasu Agarbathi stake holder R Krishna, were felicitated.
Mahajana Education Society President R Vasudevamurthy presided. Music Director Hamsalekha and college principal Nagarathna were present.
