Police can discharge their duties of maintaining law and order in society better if members of public co-operated with them in preventing crimes through community policing, Dr Ramanivas Sepat, the district superintendent of police, has said.
He was speaking at a training programme held at the district Police Parade Ground recently. The aim of imparting training in handling gun is to involve public in community policing, he added.
Additional SP H R Bhagavan Das said the gun should be used for self-defence and in defence of others from anti-social elements, in cases such as rape, dacoity and theft.
Inspectors (the district reserve police) Nagaraj and Raghu, resource persons Narayanaswamy, Subramani, V M Venkatesh and Kanaka Rural Development Organisation convenor Nadupalli Krishnamurthy were present on the occasion. Students T D Venkataratna, Arati, Nagashri, Sarvesh Krishna, Manjunathgowda and Prashant were also present on the occasion.
Traffic management
Home guards will be trained in disaster management as well as traffic management, DSP Sepat said while speaking at a workshop. “Home guards play a vital role in maintaining law and order situation, and also in cases of emergency.”
District commandant B Mariswamy said service of home guards will be required during Assembly elections. Ex-servicemen Venkatesh and R M Ramaiah were felicitated.
