"Hand over the Soujanya rape and murder case to CBI. There is a need for an unbiased and transparent probe. People involved in the heinous crime should be severely punished," read the post cards written to the Chief Minister by CPI members in a post card protest held outside Deputy Commissioner's office in Mangalore on Saturday.

The members who shouted slogans against the delay in justice for Soujanya, urged the public to join them in the fight for justice.

Speaking at the protest, AITUC State Committee Member H V Rao regretted that incidents of violence on women are increasing everyday. "Whenever such unfortunate incidents happen, it receives huge media attention. However, after some days the issue is forgotten. This should not happen. The fight should continue till justice is received," he stressed.

He further added that there is a need to punish people involved in such crimes, as such incidents frequently occur in different parts of the nation. With severe punishment, a fear can be created in people, not to indulge in such crimes, he said. CPI Mangalore Committee Secretary Seetharam Berinja said that DK has become a hub of miscreants. The safety, security issues, especially with regard to women, needs to be looked into.

The post card campaign is only the beginning. CPI shall not stop protesting, until the issue is handed over to CBI and a thorough probe is held, he added.

CPI District Committee Joint Convenor B Shekar said that there are many pending cases in Dharmasthala town, which needs probe.

The CPI members later marched to the head post office in Pandeshwar and posted their post cards.
