Till AICC president Sonia Gandhi arrived, Congress candidates for the parliamentary elections from Mysore-Kodagu, Chamarajanagar and Mandya, made ample use of the time to connect with their voters under one roof.

Sitting MP from Mysore-Kodagu A H Vishwanath, in his address to the gathering, sought support from the voters to keep communal forces at bay. Making a scathing attack on Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, for promising to develop Mysore on the lines of Paris, Vishwanath reminded the leaders of the saffron party of their failure in improving tourist attractions in the city utilising central funds.

Asking the people to not to fall prey to the promises being made by BJP, Vishwanath said: “The Siddaramaiah led State Government has already chalked out an exclusive scheme to give tourism a filip in the old Mysore region under the name of Cauvery Regional Tourism Centre.”

Another sitting MP from Chamarajanagar R Dhruvanarayan said that he had made judicious use of all the programmes chalked out by UPA government at the Centre -- latest one being the launching of the works on widening of national highway-212.

Ramya, another sitting MP, who wrested Mandya LS seat from JD(S) in the by-polls, expressed her deep gratitude to the people, who stood by her during the “testing time”. “I was in the midst of uncertainty, losing my father, and tackling aspersions against lineage, when you supported my candidature,” she said.
