Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president G Parameshwara has ordered the expulsion of 29 party leaders who are contesting the May 12 Assembly polls as rebels.

These leaders, who were denied tickets, are contesting the election as independent candidates from 27 Assembly constituencies across the state. They include Tarikere legislator
G H Srinivas, who is standing as an independent after having joined the JD(S) where he did not get the ticket. The list also has A L Pushpa (Jagalur), Prakash Angadi (Navalgund), Nallurhalli Nagesh (Mahadevapura), Venkatesh Naik (brother of Siruguppa MLA B M Nagaraj) among others.

They have been expelled from the party’s primary membership for six years, the KPCC said in a press release.
