Groups supporting two different Youth Congress leaders allegedly engaged themselves in a physical confrontation during the Quit India Movement’s anniversary programme organised by Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee at Town Hall in the city on Thursday.

Several Congress workers were injured in the incident.

Soon after the culmination of the programme, Punit Shetty of INTUC and Srinivas, a supporter of District Youth Congress Committee President Mithun Rai, allegedly abused each other physically. Punit Shetty, who was injured during the clash, has been admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru. He has submitted a complaint at Mangaluru South police station, against 13 people, including Mithun Rai, of assaulting him and posing a life threat.

However, Mithun Rai has refused the charge and said that it was a matter ofthe party workers and he is not involved in it any way.

A case was registered against Punit Shetty for allegedly threatening a party worker. This was the reason for the clash.
