MLC Bhoje Gowda opined that the Congress lost the recently concluded assembly elections in the coastal belt for neglecting Hindus.

Speaking to the reporters here on Saturday, he said the Congress had clinched the highest number of seats in the coastal region in the previous Assembly polls, but faced utter defeat in the 2018 elections. The Congress must introspect on where the Hindu votes went.

Hindu votes got polarised due to new developments that took place during the five-year Congress rule in Karnataka, he added. Polarisation of Hindu votes led to the grand old party's defeat in the coastal belt, Gowda said.

Keeping this in mind, JD(S) leaders have been asked to give Hindus priority on par with minorities communities, Gowda added.

On the coalition between JD(S) and Congress for the urban local bodies elections, he noted that no decision had been taken so far. The decision would be taken after holding discussions locally, he added.
