A total of 30 members including 12 students, took ill after drinking contaminated water at Gulasindha, Channarayapatna taluk, Hassan, on Thursday.

The symptoms of sickness and diarrhoea started since Wednesday evening itself in the village. Asha workers were alerted on Thursday morning, who in turn informed the hospital.  Patients were rushed to the hospital and treated.

Residents of the village said that the village was supplied with contaminated water, which was reddish in colour. They said that the casing pipe between the drain and a borewell had broken, resulting in the contamination of drinking water in the village. Taluk Health Officer Dr Nagesh Aradhya and other Health department staff, Inspector A Marappa visited the hospital.

Residents urged officials to take necessary steps to maintain hygiene in the village.
Dr Aradhya said 10 health staff were deputed in the village to check sanitation and villagers were told to drink boiled drinking water.
