When all his pleas to mayor to address inadequate water supply went unheard, a corporator staged a lone protest in front of the mayor’s chamber at MCC here on Thursday.

R Ananthu, an independent corporator representing ward 58 in the city corporation squatted in front of the mayor’s chamber for sometime, demanding the latter to come out with a solution.

Ananthu closed the door of mayor’s chamber from outside, restraining M C Rajeshwari first citizen of the city from stepping out.

The mayor was well inside the chamber.

No changes

Ananthu told Deccan Herald, the ward he represents is bereft of drinking water supply for the past five days and there are no signs of change in the situation. The ward has a population of 10,000 with Raghavendra Layout, Ghousianagar, Beggar’s colony among others forming the same.

Tankers deployed

As an alternative measure, water tankers are being deployed. Earlier to this, water was supplied once in two days.

The central storage water reservoir in Raghavendra Nagar is the source of water to the ward, besides that of borewell, said Ananthu.

Ananthu dared the mayor to either step down from the post or address the problem.

What wondered Ananthu was when the other wards are getting water during particular hours, why it’s not so in the case of his ward.

Similar is the situation at wards 59 and 60, where water is a mirage, alleged Ananthu.

Following the protest, executive engineer of Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW) Subramanya arrived at the spot. The engineer was directed by the mayor to look into the grievances of the corporator, thus ending the protest.
