Bengaluru: Criticising the Congress government “lackadaisical” approach in nabbing the “real culprits” who perpetrated the heinous act of slashing the udders of the cows in Bengaluru, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Assembly R Ashoka on Tuesday announced that the BJP would take up a “Dharma Yuddha” condemning the incident. The state-wide stir would also draw attention to increasing incidents of attacks on Hindus, said Ashoka.
Accompanied by state BJP president B Y Vijayendra, Bangalore Central Lok Sabha MP P C Mohan, Ashoka offered puja on the occasion of Sankranti at the house of Karna, who owned the cows that were mutilated two days ago. The Bengaluru police have arrested 30-year-old Shaikh Nasru in connection with the incident. Karna received Rs 1 lakh in compensation by the BJP delegation for his loss, while Mohan donated two cows and a calf.
Ashoka claimed that the incident was aimed at instilling fear among Hindus. “But such tactics won’t work since both the BJP and Hindus are brave enough to tackle such challenges. The BJP extends its support to all Hindu organisations in the state to launch a Dharma Yuddha condemning such incidents,” Ashoka added.
The LoP said that the Congress need not trouble itself compensating Karna, since the Hindu community and the BJP would take care of not only him, but all families affected by similar tragedies.
“On the one hand, Congress wants to offer compensation to Karna, while facilitating the cow-eating community (Gau Bhakshak) to slaughter cattle,” Ashoka said.
Suspecting police having acted under pressure and arresting a “mentally-challenged man” in the case, Ashoka added, “How can a mentally-challenged man work in a factory for ten years in the city? Why were only Karna’s cattle attacked? These were the same cattle that participated in a demonstration to protest the government’s move to take land away from the veterinary hospital.”
Vijayendra, meanwhile, said that such incidents would reflect poorly on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his government.
“This incident shows that the Congress is engaging in politics of appeasement,” he added.
