The office of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was set on fire at Thokkottu on Wednesday night ahead of the party’s harmony meet.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is scheduled to address the meet to be held at Nehru Maidan on Saturday. Office furniture, television set, posters and flex boards meant for the  rally were gutted in fire. It is suspected to be the handiwork of right wing activists.

The latter have called for a protest on Friday followed by a bandh on Saturday, against Vijayan’s participation in the rally. City police commissoner M Chandra Sekhar and SP Bhushan Borase said security arrangements have been made for Vijayan’s visit.
