Crime scene kits for DK Police soon

The kits, to be distributed to all the 13 stations in the district contain as many as 64 items - a laptop with internet connectivity, digital camera, digital voice recorder, finger print kit - to name a few.

Superintendent of Police A Subramanyeshwar Rao said at a press meet here on Sunday the kit, designed by the DK Police was the first of its kind in the State. It contains all the investigation paraphernalia and will be the part and parcel of police station set up. Each kit costs Rs 46,000.

“Earlier the fingerprint expert had to visit the crime scene to collect fingerprints. Now, the police can themselves take them with the help of the kit thus obviating the need to wait for the expert,” the SP said.

Some items in the kits would exhaust in a couple of months and the funds released for investigation expenditure will be used to replenish the stock.

The investigators can contact the higher authorities on the spot using the internet facility in the laptops.

Three batches of police personnel will be trained in collecting fingerprints, using laptop, camera, voice recorder and gathering clues from the crime scene. As part of the investigation, the crime scene will be photographed and videographed. The statements of witnessess too will be recorded, the SP said.
