R Basant, former judge of Kerala High Court, opined that the gradual change in culture is sure to have a drastic impact on the minds of children.
Speaking at a zonal-level workshop, organised by the Legal Services Authority, department of woman and child welfare and district child protection unit here on Sunday, he stressed on quality education for children.
The judge pointed out that while some parents shower more care and possessiveness towards their wards, some totally neglect them. This is totally confusing the young minds, who develop pre-conceived notions about their parents. Parents should know how to behave in front of the children.
Boys and girls below 18 years are considered as children legally. But, in today’s circumstances, adolescents — between 16 and 18 years — have wide exposure and understand the happenings well. Some turn criminals in their young age.
The onus is on the parents to monitor thier children and never given them an opportunity to end up as juvenile delinquents.
Commenting on celebrating the death sentence of Ajmal Kasab by bursting crackers, he said such issues should be approached with humanity.
If the children are not guided properly, they might get involved in anti-social activities as it is the time their minds undergo several changes, it is the time they have to be taken on the right path.
