New curriculum will be introduced for the CA course from next year, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) President K Raghu said.
He was delivering the inaugural address at ‘Jnana Sathra’ Students National Conclave organised by the Board of Studies of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India at Dr T M A Pai International Convention Centre in the city recently.
He said that the new curriculum is based on the International Financial Reporting Standards. Chartered accountants have a major role to play in the development of economy.
About two lakh students pursue CA studies. Opportunities for CAs are growing within the country as well. CAs are in great demand from IT, retail, telecom and various other sectors too, apart from financial services. The course is affordable and many students from less privileged families such as Preema Jayakumar and Yogish Mistry have made their achievements in their field, he added.
The pass percentage in CA examinations is as low as seven to eight percent. This is due to inadequate preparation by the students. The students need to go in depth with respect to the preparation for CA examinations and they have to prepare notes from their study material. Tuition notes alone is not sufficient. CA exams is one of the best examination patterns. He stressed that the students must take the articleship training seriously. ICAI provides merit cum need based scholarship and articleship stipends to students, he said.
