Cyclist killed in mishap

A 69-year-old cycle rider was killed after a speeding lorry hit him on his way towards Trasi junction here at NH-66 on Saturday in Kundapur.

According to police, the deceased is Anand Hebbar. He was pushing his cycle on the adjacent side of the road when the lorry heading towards Byndoor from Kunadpur knocked him down. He succumbed to injuries on the way to a hospital.

A case has been registered in Gangolli police station.

Gold ornaments stolen

Thieves gained entry into a house during broad daylight and decamped with 40 pawn gold ornaments, at Nadupadavu in Konaje Police Station jurisdiction on Saturday.

According to the police, the house belongs to Ashok Kumar Shetty of Nadupadavu. The incident occurred when no one was at the house. Shetty's wife had been to the annual day celebrations at her son's school in BC Road. The incident came to light when she returned home in the afternoon. The thieves had broken open the main door of the house. It is said that the family had shifted to their new house just two weeks ago.
