In an order to the Deputy Commissioners of Mandya and Mysuru and also to the Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Managing Director, the Deputy Chief Minster has directed to clear the encroachments, install boundary stones and submit a report.

Citing that the water storage capacity in the reservoir is decreasing due to the construction of resorts and land encroachment at the KRS backwaters, Srirangapatna MLA Ramesh Babu Bandisiddegowda and MLC Dinesh Gooligowda had written a letter to the Deputy Chief Minister, urging him to issue strict instructions to the departments concerned, to clear encroachments.

They have also suggested directing the Police department and Pollution Control Board to set up a 'watch and ward' system, to monitor any illegal activities at the backwaters.
