Various castes among the Dalits, both touchables (right hand) and untouchables (left hand), expressed solidarity and resolved to fight unitedly for judicious internal quota in the reservation for Scheduled Castes in education, employment and promotions in service.
A few leaders of both the sections of the Dalits met here for a workshop on the report of Justice A J Sadashiva Commission on internal quota in reservation for SCs at Rotary Hall on JLB Road here on Tuesday. They vowed not to express any difference of opinion on either reservation or internal reservation.
The leaders said as the members of the Dalit communities do not have complete knowledge of the report and recommendations of the commission, there is some misunderstanding. "The Dalit communities are divided as we discriminate as the right hand and left-hand communities among ourselves. We should enter into matrimonial alliances and develop familial relationships for a better understanding of the problems of the communities in general. This will also help address the problems effectively. The gap between the communities is a big hindrance in the development of the people politically, academically, financially and also socially. The gaps should be bridged to overcome these hindrances," they said.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has agreed to hold a meeting with representatives of both sections of the Dalits on January 13 in Bengaluru. At least 50,000 people of both sections are expected to take part in the meeting on the day. The issues ailing the communities will be discussed on that day also to find effective solutions, they said.
