DC promises solutions to farmers' problems

He spoke after a meeting with the leaders of Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha at his office in the City on Friday. He talked to the farmer leaders- who have been protesting since Thursday- for more than two hours and discussed the problems of the farmers with them.

“Funds have been released and applicants will soon be provided land to build houses,” Meena said and added that in case government land was unavailable, applicants would be given private plots.

Banks should give the poor loans up to Rs 50,000 without demanding security. “A meeting will be organised with bank managers and matter will be resolved by June 15,” he said. He added, farmers could continue their protest if the promises are not fulfilled.

Zilla Panchayat chief executive officer N Shantappa, farmer leaders G C Bayya Reddy, K P Suryanarayana, V Geetha, Gandhinagar Narayanaswamy and T M Venkatesh were present at the meeting.
