Deputy Commissioner P I Sreevidya said that the people dwelling in the proximity of River Cauvery at Karadigodu village will be shifted to safer locations in the wake flood caused by heavy rain.
She visited the flood-affected areas in Siddapura on Thursday and interacted with the residents.
Directing the officials to shift the people to the safer locations, she noted that many houses lying on the river banks at Karadigodu and Nelyahudikeri have been inundated. From the point of safety, the people should be evacuated before the flood-level rises in River Cauvery. Necessary precautions should be taken so that the precious lives could be saved, she added.
She directed the Panchayat Development Officer to repair the roads at Chikkanahalli which are severely damaged due to the heavy rain.
Meanwhile, the villagers appealed to the deputy commissioner to build a 200-metre protective wall to prevent floods.
They also said it is not prudent to shift only 15 to 20 families when there are more than 150 families in the village.
The deputy commissioner replied that search is on for land which is larger enough to accommodate more people. But for the time being, the identified houses should be evacuated soon. They will be provided shelter at the gruel centre, she explained.
