The 63-year-old newspaper organisation, the first publication group in India to initiate colour printing in its main issue, was conferred the award for the quality of printing of its daily, Deccan Herald, over the past year.
Governor H R Bhardwaj presented the awards.DB Corp from Ahmedabad, which publishes the Hindi daily, the Dainik Bhaskar, won the Silver award and the Kerala-based Malayala Manorama was given the Recommendation Award in recognition of its efforts in the field.
The National Awards in Printing, organised by the All India Federation of Master Printers (AIFMP) and the Karnataka State Printers Association (KSPA), saw 1,890 entries in 101 categories. Karnataka had highest number of printing firm nominees.
Speaking at the function, Bharadwaj said: “There is still no substitute to the print media. Indian printing has reached a point where it is of international standards.”
Manoj Mehta, president AIFMP, said the government should take initiative to help the printing press firms and increase scheme subsidy from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. He also announced “the State of Karnataka will soon have a print tech park with a training institute set up at a cost of Rs 50 crore in Harohalli.”
Sabjeev Mohan, president Sri Lanka Association of Printers, Vijay Kumar, MLA, Vijay Kumar Chopra, former Chairman, PTI, attended the function.
