Delayed NoC: Farmer succumbs to suicide attempt

A farmer who attempted suicide over the delay in issue of a no objection certificate for his poultry farm, died at KR Hospital in Mysuru on Wednesday.

Basavanna (68), his wife Sundaramma and son Shivashankar of Mariyala village had attempted to end their lives in front of the taluk office, dejected over the delay in issuing an NoC for his poultry farm. Sundaramma and Shivashan-kar are being treated in ICU.

The residents of Mariyala village and activists of Raitha Sangha staged a dharna in front of the deputy commissioner’s office along with the dead body, demanding action against officials responsible for the delay.

Deputy Commissioner A M Kunjappa said that action would be taken against the officials found guilty and that the NoC would be issued to the poultry farm. The protest was withdrawn following the DC’s assurance.
