“To say that there are three crore cases pending and delaying tactics are being adopted to adjudicate these cases is untrue,” he said while speaking at a regional conference on ‘Enhancing Quality of Adjudication’, organised by the Karnataka High Court and the Judicial Academy, in Bangalore on Friday.
The cases adjudicated by the Indian courts are seen in an unfavourable light by the people without the grasp of real facts, he said.
Providing statistics on the backlog of cases in India, he revealed, “Seventy-five per cent of the cases pending are up to five years old, and out of this, 40 per cent of the cases are just a year old. Only 25 per cent of the cases are more than five years old.”
He stressed on the need to clear the cases which have been pending for a long time.
He said that while India had about 15 cases for every 1,000 Indians, the figure was 83 in Singapore, 200 in Europe and 300 in the US.
