The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday directed Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) not to take any action against retired DGP (Prisons) H N Satyanarayana Rao in connection with his petition challenging February 26, 2018 government order asking the ACB to register a case against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

Justice Raghvendra S Chauhan passed the order after government advocate V Srinidhi sought time to file an objection to the petition and, adjourned the matter to April 19. Rao has also sought to quash the FIR registered against him by the ACB.

The state government directed the ACB to investigate allegations made last year by then DIGP (Prisons) D Roopa in her report to ACB that she noticed a lot of irregularities in the Bengaluru Central Prisons at Parappana Agrahara and she had heard that Rao was party to the Rs two-crore bribe paid to officials to give VVIP treatment to convicted AIADMK leader V K Sasikala in the prison.

Rao had submitted in his petition that he had given a statement before the investigation officer on July 25, 2017, that he only followed the orders of the chief minister. He stated that two representations were submitted before him, seeking class-I facility for Sasikala but he rejected them under Karnataka Prison Manual.
