Commissioner for Transport and Road Safety Bhaskar Rao said complaints have been received by officials of the Department that managements of garment factories and a few construction industries have been found carrying workers in trucks.

“Workers, especially women have been found to have been loaded onto trucks and transported to their workplaces. This is absolutely inhuman, where people are being treated like cattle. Apart from being a violation of the Motor Vehicles Act, it also amounts to human rights violation,” said Rao.

The Department says all workers/labourers employed in a garment factory or even at construction sites have to be transported only in passenger buses or maxi-cabs. The Commissioner further said surprise checks will be carried out by Motor Vehicle inspectors on Tumkur Road, Peenya, Nelamangala, Kadugodi, Whitefield, Banashankari and J P Nagar, where a number of garment factories are located.

The Department will now initiate stringent action against the managements of these factories found violating rules.
