Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday hit out at the media when it sought his comments on the rape of a six-year-old girl at Vibgyor High school in Bangalore.

“Don’t you have any other work than this (reporting rape cases),” Siddaramaiah snapped at reporters who sought his comments on the said rape. He walked off without taking answering any questions.

Last week, the chief minister was embarrassed when television channels showed him dozing off during a debate in the Legislative Assembly on sexual crimes against women.

To another question, he said he was not aware of any cases from Mysore and that he needed to check.

Asked as to when the Goonda Act will be amended to bring rapists in its ambit, the chief minister merely said that necessary steps would be taken soon.

The Act will be applied to all rapists, he added.

Home Minister K J George told the Legislative Council that the government would amend the Goonda Act in the ongoing legislature session so that it could be applied to rapists too.

The chief minister had on Monday announced that in the wake of increasing rapes in the State, the Act would be invoked against rapists.

He had also said that the Act would be invoked against the skating instructor of Vibgyor High school who has been arrested for raping a six-year-old girl.
