DSS members led by Convener K Kumar burnt an effigy near Azad Park Circle and organised protest in front of the Town Municipality Office.

Later, they also held a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office alleging Town Municipality President of following anti-Dalit policies in administration.

Speaking on the occasion, Kumar alleged that there are irregularities in public works taken up in the town.

Tenders are executed in corrupt manner, he said adding, “the Town Municipality President H D Thammaiah has shown corruption and nepotism that he misused his powers by awarding contracts to BJP workers.”

The shopping complex belonging to Town Municipality has been demolished without serving notice to merchants, who were occupying shops. Further, materials including pipes, rolling shutters, bricks, iron rods and laterite stones were sold directly without holding open auction, Kumar alleged.

A memorandum was submitted to Deputy Commissioner Dr N S Channappagowda. DSS Leaders V Lakshman, Organising Convener S Manjunath, INTUC District President Pushparajan and others were present.
