Mangalore Bar Association President S P Chengappa on Thursday said that DySP M K Ganapathi had recently told him about the ‘ordeal’ he had suffered at the hands of minister K J George and senior IPS officers A M Prasad and Pronab Mohanty.
Addressing reporters at association premises here, Chengappa said “Ganapathi who had come to the court to attend a case a few days ago, had recalled the ordeal he underwent at the hands of George and IPS officers A M Prasad and Pronab Mohanty. He also took the name of former IPS officer Kempaiah, now advisor to Home Minister G Parameshwara.”
Chengappa said Ganapathi was, however, all praise for the IGP (Western Range) J Arun Chakravarthy, whom he called a ‘good officer’. Ganapathi was working as DySP at the office of the IGP (Western Range) when he committed suicide.
Dismissing the statements that Ganapathi committed suicide due to domestic problems, Chengappa said that he knows the late police officer’s family closely and there were no rift in the family.
Chengappa demanded a CBI probe into the case and said the members of Mangalore Bar Association will stage a token protest on July 15. Advocates will attend courts wearing black badges, he added.
