In another ‘first’ for the Election Commission this time, it has taken steps to ferry voters residing far away, to the booths. This is aimed at curbing the practice of parties, especially in rural areas, taking voters to the booths in private vehicles.

On Saturday, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anil Kumar Jha said the EC would place under the deputy commissioners (DCs) additional buses hired by them to ferry people.

“From 7 am on Sunday, the buses will be at the disposal of the DCs. However, a charge will be levied for the service as per KSRTC rates,” he said.

For the physically challenged voters, the EC will provide all possible help, including a separate queue.

“There is provision of ramps for the disabled,” he said. Braille script has been provided on the EVMs for the blind. A provision has been made to allow one person to accompany him or her.
