6 killed, many injured after truck rams into Ganesha procession in Hassan

Hassan: Eight people have been killed and around 25 injured, when a goods vehicle rammed into the Ganesha idol procession, at Mosale Hosahalli in Hassan taluk, on Friday night.
The Ganesha idol immersion procession was being taken out on National Highway 373, on Friday at around 8.30 pm. It is said a goods truck was plying on the highway, when a motorbike suddenly came across the vehicle. The canter driver tried to avoid hitting the motorbike and hit the road median and ploughed into the procession.
Eight people have died in the mishap and 25 people injured, confirmed District incharge Minister Krishna Byre Gowda. While 18 people have been treated at Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences in Hassan, seven others are undergoing treatment at private hospitals.
Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has condoled the death in his X account and also announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to each of the deceased's family. The medical expenses will be borne by the government, he has stated.
