An elderly man was found bludgeoned to death with his throat slit near the railway tracks at A Narayanapura, when he was returning home after work on Saturday night.

Police suspect that the victim, Muniswamy, a 63-year-old petty shopkeeper from Udaynagar, KR Puram, might have been murdered over a property dispute among his children from his two wives.

The assailants — believed to have arrived as a gang — accosted Muniswami who was riding a moped. They attacked him and slit his throat. To make sure that he was dead, the assailants crushed him with a stone lying nearby, police said. Residents of the neighbourhood called the police.

Police suspect that it was not a murder for gain as Muniswami’s belongings — cash and his motorcycle — were left untouched. Muniswami was identified through his mobile phone and the documents found in his wallet.

His children, from both wives, had a dispute over property, hence police suspect it could be the motive.
