The last day of Jnana Degula, the education fair organised by Deccan Herald and Prajavani, saw a number of students and parents ready to consider opportunities in emerging courses and new fields.
Various colleges that offered such courses provided ample information to students about the same.
Kavya has just passed her II PU from KMWA College, Mahalakshmipuram. While she is keen on pursuing a career in medicine, she was amazed at the possibility of studying courses such as in Auditory Verbal Therapy, Speech Language, Pathology and Audiology, and Special Education in Hearing Impairment offered by an institute at the fair.
“My priority is medical. However, in case I do not get a seat, I will be keen on pursuing such courses,” she said. “These are very good courses whose scope seems quite good,” her mother Seema said.
Another similar course that might not be so popular among students, but which has had a number of queries at the fair, is Bachelor in Physiotherapy (BPT). A representative of a college offering the course said: “With sports leagues in cricket and football emerging as money spinners, students have realised that they may be a part of this boom in the sports industry through this course. We have received a number of students who have shown interest in pursuing this course,” said the representative.
Sports Management and International Chartered Accountancy are a few other such courses in which students have shown keen interest. Rajendra S B, a parent who was at the fair, was visiting a number of stalls and trying to find the right course for his son.
“My son will be joining the I PU commerce and I am exploring everything possible for him after his II PU. The course on International Chartered Accountancy (ICA) looks like a viable option,” he said. Another parent Rose D’Souza was considering a number of courses like Sports Management for her son.
Animation, gaming, VFX
Although varied courses were on offer by various colleges at the fair, a number of students were particularly interested in the possibilities in animation, gaming and VFX or visual effects.
Shreya Shah is already an undergraduate student of animation and VFX from an institute in the City, but he was looking at doing another Bachelors course in Computer Applications so as to supplement his knowledge. “I want to merge my knowledge in animation and VFX with knowledge in software,” he said.
