He was addressing the newly-elected GP members at a training programme organised at the TP auditorium. “Gram Panchayats are the lowest rung of democracy, which people have direct access to. Therefore, GP officials should make good of the opportunity given to them,” he said.

Further, he asked the departments of women and child welfare, agriculture, horticulture and sericulture to collaborate with the Gram Panchayat in implementing developmental schemes. “All of you will be playing a vital role in this regard and you should work efficiently,” Amarnath told the officials.

Assistant Director of the Agriculture Department Raghavendra and Assistant Director of the Horticulture Department Narayana Swamy disseminated information about the development programmes initiated by their departments.
