Teachers should emulate values and principles laid down by Dr S Radhakrishnan, the greatest teacher ever, to be an inspiration to their wards, said legislator N Sampangi.

Participating at a Teachers’ Day programme organised at the Ramakrishna Kalyana Mantap in the town on Wednesday, he called upon the teachers to be dedicated to their profession.

He felt that the government should extend more benefits to teachers, especially working in border areas.

He was of the opinion that basic infrastructure like classrooms, drinking water, retention walls and such should be prioritised in schools of Bagepalli and Gudibande taluks. The legislator asked the officials to look into these issues, at the earliest.

Addressing the gathering, Radhakrishnan’s grandson Subrahmanyam Sharma urged teachers to be guide in moulding students’ career. “There is no dearth of funds from the government to the education sector and officials must utilise the funds to improve the condition of schools and children,” Sharma added.

Retired teachers from the taluk Sampangi Ramaiah Shetty, Y C Thippa Reddy, K N Vijay, Venkata Shiva Reddy, E R Venkata Shiva Reddy, Mehboob Subhan, G L Indiramma, Parahat Unnisa, Lakshmamma, Yashodamma, Mohammed Ibrahim. B K Nanjundeshwara, ECO Narasimhaiah, Abdul Khaddus and P N Ramesh were felicitated for their contribution to the field of education.
