Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths caught an engineer and an employee on contract with the Panchayat Raj department red-handed on Tuesday while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a contractor for clearing his bill.

According to a press release, a contractor had completed the construction of an Anganwadi building at Keremakki in Byguru in Chikkamagaluru district and had furnished a bill of Rs 1.25 lakh to the department.

Engineer Shyama B Thambe had sought Rs 15,000 to clear the bills. The aggrieved contractor then approached the ACB. Accordingly, a trap was laid. The engineer operated through contract employee Kishore.

As soon as the money exchanged hands, the sleuths nabbed them.
