The writers, who had earlier raised objections on a government order on introduction of English medium in 1,000 schools, have once again demanded the government to reconsider its decision.
“The writers will stage a protest if the government moves ahead with its plan’, they said on Saturday, the second day of the 84th Akhila Bharatha Kannada Sahitya Sammelana here.
They also asked the government to drop the idea of merging government schools citing low admissions.
Writers, educationists and linguists, who participated in a session on the question of survival of Kannada schools, attended by Sammelana president Chandrashekhar Kambar decided to submit a memorandum to Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to withdraw the order on introducing English medium, merger of schools, implementation of recommendations made by the Committee on Strengthening Public Schools, protection and rejuvenation of schools which have completed 100 years.
Educationist Prof G S Jayadev, who chaired the session, said that the memorandum on these issues would be submitted to Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to filful the rightful demands of Kannadigas.
He also appealed the Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) to direct its taluk units to take initiative in improving conditions of Kannada schools as one of the aims of the 103-year-old KSP is to promote education in Kannada by opening Kannada schools, he
added.
