Former Karnataka minister the late S R Kashappanavar’s wife sided with her daughter-in-law, and not her son, in a divorce case in a Bengaluru family court.

The city family court directed Devanand Kashappanavar to pay a permanent alimony of Rs 4 crore to his wife. The verdict was pronounced on July 24. The court pronounced the order after granting a decree of divorce to the petitioner, Devanand's wife.

The judge said that Devanand should pay the amount to the petitioner within 60 days from the order dated July 24, 2017. Judge K Bhagya pronounced the verdict after allowing the petition filed by Devanand's wife under Section 13 (1)(9)(b) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, seeking a decree of dissolution of her marriage.
