Based on the complaint given by the Padamane B Nagesh Nayak of Bairampalli, the Lokayukta officials caught Shekhar. He was produced before the court which released him from judicial custody on Tuesday. It was said that Padmaraj Rao and six others had assaulted Nagesh in Bairampalli on March 20, 2009.

In this regard a case was registered at Hiriadka police station. Later, the case was heard by the Udupi second division civil judge and JMFC Court. The court gave its verdict on August 20, 2010 and remanded all the accused to two year imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 2,300.

The accused had appealed against the verdict in the Udupi Fast Track Court on January 7, 2011.

When Nagesh met Shekar Bovi to ask him on the status of the case, Bovi had said that the hearing will be held on January 10 and also asked Nagesh to ‘look after him properly’ so that the accused will get punished. As Nagesh did not want to pay bribe, he filed a complaint with the Lokayukta.

When Nagesh went to inquire on his case, Shekar had said that judge should be paid and demanded a sum of Rs 10,000. Subsequently, Shekar was trapped by the Lokayukta sleuths.
