Chairman of a Cabinet sub-committee for backlog vacancies Govind Karjol on Friday warned that the State government will stop the grant-in-aid to private degree colleges if they fail to fill up backlog vacancies reserved for SCs and STs within three months.

Speaking reporters, he said as many as 1,037 posts in aided degree colleges have been kept vacant for many years. The management of these institutions should take steps to fill them up. Otherwise, the government will be forced to take action. Backlog vacancies are the highest in aided degree colleges, he added.

Karjol, who is also Kannada and Culture Minister, said instructions have been issued to all other departments to fill up the vacancies immediately. The Finance Department has recently lifted the restriction on filling up backlog vacancies reserved for SCs and STs, he added.
