He was presented the gold medal for his recognition in using his skills as a fingerprint expert which helped in detecting the accused involved in murder, extortion, robbery and 17 other serious cases. Apart from this, he was also responsible in 24 other cases coming to light.

He had assisted the police in recovering lakhs of rupees worth gold ornaments and cash and in the light of this he was awarded the gold medal.
Somashekar had bagged the third place in the All India fingerprint expert exam in 2001. He has also received several cash awards from the State and central home departments.

He had represented the State at the 46th All India Police convention in which a seminar on the theme ‘Scientific assistance in investigation,’ was also organised. Then the State had bagged the first place for the first time.
Somashekar has also been successful in assisting in detecting several crime cases related to Tamil Nadu.

In the recently held police flag day celebrations in Bangalore he was presented the gold medal in which Inspector General and Director General of Police Ajai Kumar Singh and other high ranking police officers were present.
