FIR filed against Sriramulu for campaigning in temple

Chief Electoral Officer (in-charge) R Manoj said the FIR had been filed under the Religious Institution Misuse Act, 1988.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) had received a complaint that Sriramulu had campaigned at an Eshwara temple at Nagenahalli in the constituency on November 17.
After verifying the complaint, the ECI directed the Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka, to file the FIR, he added.

As per Section 7 of the Act, those found guilty can face imprisonment up to five years.
Recently, police had filed similar FIRs against State BJP president K S Eshwarappa, BJP candidate Gadilingappa and BJP MLC Shashil Namoshi.
