Mangaluru: A fire gutted two shops and a goods vehicle near the Clock Tower in Mangaluru in the early hours of Saturday.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot and successfully brought the blaze under control.
According to an official from the department, the fire is suspected to have originated in a scrap godown, possibly due to a short circuit.
It quickly spread to an adjacent cloth store and also engulfed a goods vehicle that was parked inside the godown.
As a result, clothes, dress materials, and scrap goods were completely destroyed in the fire.
The Pandeshwar fire station received the alert at 4:20 am. Considering the intensity of the fire, additional fire tenders from Kadri and Bantwal were deployed to assist in extinguishing the flames.
The estimated loss is believed to be around Rs 20 lakh.
